JACKSONVILLE — The 14th-ranked Jax State rifle team will host the 11th-ranked Murray State Racers for a Valentine's Day meeting on Saturday, February 14. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m. from the Gamecock Rifle Range.
The Gamecocks and the Racers met twice during the fall semester. On October 26, the Racers took down Jax State 4716-4661, then a week later, took down the Gamecocks again by a narrow margin of 4714-4706. The 4706 mark is a season-high for the Gamecocks and the highest aggregate put up by Jax State since at least 2018.
Last time out, Jax State fell to second-ranked Nebraska on back-to-back days, falling 4741-4668 on Saturday before falling 4731-4660 again on Sunday.
Jax State is currently posting a team average aggregate of 4684.636, with a smallbore average of 2317.727 and an air rifle average of 2366.909.
Frans Rasmusson is Jax State's leading performer this season in both smallbore and air rifle, with an average of 586.182 in smallbore and 595.545 in air rifle for an aggregate average of 1181.727.
Rasmusson also posted a score of 600-59x against The Citadel weeks ago, the first Gamecock to ever post a 600.
Murray State is currently posting a team aggregate average of 4709.833, with a team smallbore average of 2336.583 and a team air rifle average of 2373.25.
Murray State is led by Carlotta Salafia, who has the highest team aggregate average of 1183.4. Her air rifle average leads the team at 597.8, with her smallbore average standing at second on the team at 585.6.
