CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team dropped its first match of its visit to Charleston, S.C. during the spring break holiday as it fell 7-0 to Charleston Southern on Thursday afternoon.
The loss drops the Gamecocks to 6-11 overall, while the Bucs of Charleston Southern improved to 11-3 on the season.
CSU got a jump start in the match by winning the doubles point, but JSU won at the top doubles spot. Head coach

Claudia Marsala were teamed together for the match. The pairing topped Yvonne Hubler and Alexandra Walters, 8-6. CSU clinched the doubles point after Alia Nour/Mi'Kola Cooper downed Jax State's tandem of
Olivia Nguyen and
Zoe Bizinos, 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, freshman
Sadey St. Amant and
Aleksandra Cmiljic lost 8-2 to Marketa Placha and Nicolin Luecke.
In singles, CSU maintained the momentum from doubles by sweeping all six singles matches in convincing fashion. Guasti dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Huber at No. 1, while Marsala was quickly ousted at No. 2 by Placha, 6-1, 6-0. Nguyen dropped her opening set to Alexsandra Walters, 6-0, before falling 6-3 in the second set.

Danielle Kerindi and Bizinos all dropped straight-sets matches.
JSU will face College of Charleston on Saturday to close out the trip to the Palmetto State.
