Printable BracketInteractive BracketINDIANAPOLIS – The 2014 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Tennis Champion, Jacksonville State learned its destination and opponent in its fourth trip to the NCAA Tennis Championships as the Gamecocks will face Georgia in the opening round of the 64-team field in Athens, Ga.
The Gamecocks and Bulldogs will take to the court on Saturday, May 10 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 12 p.m. CST.
The Bulldogs, a perennial power in collegiate tennis, enters the postseason as the No. 10 seed in the tournament. UGA posted a 16-7 overall mark in 2014 and finished 11-1 in the Southeastern Conference. UGA has been a mainstay at hosting NCAA Tennis Championships as the program has held the NCAA Championships 27 previous times. The Bulldogs will host the 2014 NCAA Championships on May 16-26.
Joining Jax State and UGA in the Athens Regional will be Atlantic Coast Conference foe North Carolina State (17-9) and the University of Oregon (17-9) of the Pac 12. The winners of the two matches will vie for the right to advance to the NCAA Round of 16.
"We are excited about being in the NCAA Tournament and we know Georgia has a great program," said JSU Head Coach
Steve Bailey. "I am excited that our guys get to experience the best atmosphere in college tennis at Georgia," added Bailey after his team and staff watched the selection show at the Stadium Towers on the JSU campus.
JSU earned the league's automatic bid by claiming the conference crown over Belmont back on April 19. The Gamecocks enter the NCAA Regional in Athens with a 17-7 overall mark and an impressive six match-winning streak and has won 11 of their last 12 matches. Jax State finished the OVC slate at 8-1 en route to sharing the OVC Regular Season Championship with Belmont.
Inclusion in the 2014 NCAA Championships will be the fourth appearance for JSU. Bailey led the men's program to the NCAA Tournament in 2005, 2007 and 2009. The Gamecocks will be playing its third postseason match against a program from the SEC as they took on the Rebels of Mississippi in 2005 and 2007. JSU dropped a 4-0 decision to Florida State in the 2009 edition of the NCAA Tournament.
