FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Jacksonville State's Rifle team will take aim at the 2015 Rifle National Championship this weekend as it competes in the NCAA Rifle Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Hosted by Alaska, the eight-team competition will take place Friday and Saturday, March 13-14. The competition, taking place on Friday, will be held in the University of Alaska Fairbanks Patty Center.  All five shooters will compete in both the smallbore competition and the air rifle portion of events. The smallbore competition begins on Friday and will last from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. with the individual finals slated from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The day is broken up into four relays, with individuals from each team shooting throughout the day.

This year's inclusion in the eight-team field is the 14th time that JSU has vied for the title.  The Gamecocks are making their fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA finals after missing in 2010.  In 2012, Jax State finished seventh overall and claimed fourth in 2011, including bronze in the smallbore.  JSU's best overall finish came at the 2005 edition of the NCAA Championships as Army edged the Gamecocks by one point, 4,659-4,658.  The Red and White finished runner-up in 2005 as Army edged the Gamecocks by one point, 4,659-4,658.

JSU has maintained its top-10 national ranking throughout the year and enters the NCAA Championships among the top-four squads in the NCAA.

Last season, Jax State finished seventh overall in the championship that was held at Murray State University.  The Gamecocks will have experience on their side with most of the squad from last season returning to postseason action.  Seniors Dan McCall and Brent Books along with junior Samantha Bullard finished last season with high marks in both air rifle and smallbore.  Senior Cole Tucker will boost JSU's aim for the national title.

The Gamecocks collected their ninth overall Ohio Valley Conference title in February at their home range and the fourth conference crown in a row.  Jax State is led by six-time OVC Coach of the Year, Ron Frost.  Frost shared the 2015 OVC Coach of the Year honor with Murray State's Alan Lollar.

The OVC will be well represented at the 2015 NCAA Championships as the Racers of MSU were selected to the eight-team field.  West Virginia, the 2014 National Champion will defend its crown in Fairbanks this year.  The rest of the field includes – Kentucky, Nebraska, Texas Christian University and the U.S. Air Force.
