JACKSONVILLE – Morehead State's Braxton Morris' two-run triple in the tenth inning halted Jacksonville State's six-game winning streak within the Ohio Valley Conference as the Eagles squeaked out a 4-2 win over JSU in the first game of the three-game series this weekend at Rudy Abbott Field.

th off of Jax State senior closer
Travis Stout. MSU (31-18, 16-9 OVC), who left 14 men on base throughout the extra inning affair, delivered in the extra frame after dodging a bullet by the Gamecocks in the bottom of the ninth. JSU (26-22, 13-12 OVC) had a pair on with no outs, but Tyler Keele pitched around trouble to earn his second win of the season. MSU's Aaron Goe came on in the tenth to retire JSU in order for the save.
The Eagles, who had scored 64 total runs in their previous four games, belted 12 hits against the JSU pitching staff, but the Red and White hurlers pitched out of many jams throughout the contest. Senior
Zachary Fowler went the first 5.2 innnings and scattered seven hits and giving up a pair of runs in the second. Nick Newell laced a double to left center to plate the pair of runs. Newell collected three hits on the night.
JSU was able to touch MSU starter, Luke Humphreys with a run in its first at bat. The Gamecocks manufactured the run as junior
Tyler Gamble lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring
Gavin Golsan. Golsan, from Mountain Brook, Alabama, had three of JSU's hits, including a pair of infield hits.
Jax State's other run came on senior
Ryan Sebra's eighth home run of the season as he belted one over the centerfield wall in the fourth. Humphrey's was solid the rest of the way as he went 8.0 innings and limited JSU to just four hits in the contest. He posted six strikeouts and did not walk a Gamecock.
The Gamecocks' bullpen was equally impressive as freshman lefthander
Justin Hoyt got out of a bases-loaded jam in sixth. Sophomore
Joe McGuire posted four strikeouts in his two innings of work. Stout was touched for four hits and a pair of runs in 2.0 innings.
The two teams return to action Saturday for game two of the series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field. JSU will honor its seven seniors prior to the afternoon contest. Fans ages 18 and under and JSU students are admitted free.
