Biography

JSU CAREER: 
(2015): A 55-game starter in the JSU outfield as a junior…finished the season batting .290 with 71 total hits and scoring a team-best 58 runs…had an on-base percentage of .361…established a new Jax State program single season mark for stolen bases in a season with 37 steals on 42 attempts…was thrown out by just two catchers (Eastern Kentucky & Morehead State). He broke the single-season mark of 36 held by Bert Smith during the 2010 season…has 76 career stolen bases entering 2016 and ranks second all-time on the program’s career stolen bases list. Smith, who played at JSU from 2006-10, owns the school record with 107 career stolen bases…led the OVC in stolen bases and ranked fourth in the nation in steals and seventh in NCAA Division I Baseball in stolen bases per game…swiped a season-best three bases against Alabama State (4/15/15)…had six at bats in five separate games and scored three runs on seven different occasions…turned in a career-high four hits against Tennessee Tech (4/11/15), including a pair of doubles…drove in three runs on the opening weekend of the season against Youngstown State (2/14/15)…credited with an inside the park home run versus Youngstown State…earned a trio of walks twice during the season against Samford (5/5/15) and at UT Martin (5/14/15).

(2014): Saw action in all 59 games as a sophomore…a mainstay in the JSU outfield with 52 starts…stellar on the base paths with an OVC best 32 stolen bases in 36 attempts...turned in a .254 average at the plate…registered 45 hits in 176 plate appearances…swiped a career-high three bases against UAB (3/11)…also went 2-for-3 and scored four runs in the same contest vs. the Blazers…carded seven doubles and drove in 15 runs and scored 27…accounted for three hits and a pair of RBI vs. Austin Peay (3/22)…produced a pair of doubles versus Eastern Kentucky (511/).

(2013): Appeared in 42 games, making 33 starts for the Gamecocks as a true freshman…started 23 games at second base and seven games at third base…finished with a .229 batting average with 27 hits, seven RBI, two doubles, 16 runs, and six stolen bases…finished with four mutli-hit games, including a 3-for-5 performance against UT Martin (3/9)…recorded his first career hit against Alabama State on March 6…also had three hits against Austin Peay on March 23…stole his first career base against Murray State on April 12…stole two bases against Tennessee Tech (4/19).
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Lee Gann at Mountain Brook High School…was a four-year letterman…batted over .300 and stole 18 bases as a senior in 2012…finished his career with a batting average over .350…named first-team all-district and all-region in 2012…also lettered in football, where he was an all-district and all-area selection…he was named second-team all-state in 2011 after catching 61 passes for 989 yards and 12 touchdowns…named most talented in music at his high school.
 
PERSONAL: Full name is Gavin Waid Golsan…son of Bubba and Kelly Golsan…born on February 6, 1993…has one older brother, Judd, who was selected by the New York Yankees in the 31st round of the 2009 draft out of high school…his father, Allen, played baseball at the University of Alabama-Birmingham…his great grandfather “Piggy” Mitchell is in the Alabama Coaches Baseball Hall of Fame…lists Chipper Jones as his favorite player and enjoys producing music…major is undecided at JSU.
