LOUSVILLE – A long wait on Saturday resulted in a short time on the field for the Jacksonville State softball team, who's final game of the Louisville Softball Classic against Dayton was rained out in the second inning.
The Gamecocks were scheduled to play just one game on Saturday at 5 p.m., the fourth of the day. A bleak forecast looked to be proven wrong as the skies opened and allowed the first three games to be played, but with JSU leading the Flyers 4-3 in the bottom of the second, the rain fell and halted the game.
JSU plated four runs in the top of the first on RBI doubles from
Emily Church and
Hayley Sims, an RBI bunt single from
Whitney Gillespie and a run-scoring grounder from
Jordan Bullock.
Dayton scored one in the bottom of the first and cut it to a one-run game in the second before the rains eventually won.
JSU will return home, where the Gamecocks will host UAB on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Tennessee Tech in a three-game series to open Ohio Valley Conference play Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. each day. Admission is free for all JSU Students and fans ages 18 and under.
