JSU vs. Winthrop LIVE STATS: GAME 1 - GAME 2
JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State softball team will open a busy midweek at University Field on Tuesday, when the Gamecocks host Winthrop in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
The Gamecocks (14-7) will host the Eagles (11-12) in the Tuesday twinbill before welcoming Western Kentucky to University Field for a 4 p.m. single game on Wednesday. It will mark JSU's first home games since Feb. 26.
JSU enters the midweek schedule riding the momentum from a pair of mercy-rule wins over in-state foes Samford and Alabama A&M to close play at the Leon Smith Classic in Oxford over the weekend. The Gamecocks thumped Samford 8-0 on Saturday before an 11-0 rout of AAMU on Sunday wrapped up a 3-1 week on the diamond.
Sophomore Anna Chisolm led JSU at the plate during the tournament, going 9-for-14 at the plate with seven runs scored, a double, a homer and eight RBI. The St. Louis native had multiple hits in every game during the weekend, including a 4-for-4 game to close the tournament. She was 5-for-8 with runners on base and 2-for-3 with the bases loaded, including a grand slam that sealed the mercy-rule win over Samford.
In the circle, senior Taylor West was also stellar, going 2-0 with a 0.64 earned run average in her two starts. The Anniston native tossed a complete game against Missouri State on Friday, leading JSU to a 4-2 win while striking out eight and allowing just one earned run. On Sunday, she struck out six AAMU batters in just four innings of the mercy-rule win.
Admission is free for JSU students and all fans ages 18 and under at all home JSU softball games.
