JACKSONVILLE – The 14th-ranked Jacksonville State rifle team wrapped up the 2019 portion of the schedule with the Gamecock Invitational over the last two weekends at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall.
JSU turned in a composite score of 4635 after posting a 2329 in air rifle and a 2306 in smallbore. The University of Memphis turned in the highest team mark with a 4679, followed by the University of Mississippi's score of 4663. Ohio Valley Conference foe Murray State carded a 4644.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Van Patten finished fourth in the individual standings with an aggregate mark of 1167. Van Patten fired a 585 in air rifle and added a 582 in smallbore. Taylor Gibson of Memphis claimed medalist honors with an 1177.
Jax State's
Sam Payne followed behind Van Patten with an 1159. Payne posted a 583 in air rifle and a 575 in smallbore.
Michael Dietz and
Owen Goad matched each other with an 1149 total.
Zach Schmidt rounded out JSU's team mark with an 1136.
Taryn Granger, who did not count in the team totals, had a solid day on the collegiate level as her scores were personal best marks. She carded a 583 in air rifle and a 575 in smallbore.
The Gamecocks will be idle until the calendar turns to 2020 as the first competition of the new year will be on January 18 against Murray State at the Gamecock Rifle Range.
