
Gamecocks To Host Jacksonville In Weekend Softball Series

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State softball team will wrap up its pre-conference schedule this weekend, when the Gamecocks host Jacksonville University in a three-game series at University Field.
The Gamecocks (13-6) will play a doubleheader against the Dolphins (12-13) at 1 p.m. on Saturday before wrapping up the series with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday. Both teams enter the weekend having won six of their last eight games. All three games of the series will be streamed live on ESPN+.
JSU is coming off a sweep of Kennesaw State on Wednesday at University Field, the Gamecocks' first games in their home stadium since it was severely damaged by an EF-3 tornado on March 19, 2018.
They rode a dominant pitching performance by Faith Sims to a 2-0 win in the opener before rallying for a 7-6 victory in the nightcap. Sims allowed just two infield singles and struck out 10 in her complete game shutout of an Owls team that had won 10 in a row coming in.
Sims (8-1) leads the OVC in wins and has gone the distance in 1- of her 11 starts this season. Her 1.96 ERA and 62 strikeouts lead the team, while opponents are just batting .196 against her. The win on Wednesday was her sixth shutout in 11 starts.
Senior Taylor Beshears continues to pace a JSU offense that is hitting .290 as a unit. Beshears boasts a .460 average, eight home runs and 22 RBI, while slugging .921. Freshman Karsen Mosley is batting .366, with senior Hayley Sims in third on the team with a .308 average.
