MARTIN, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State rifle team wrapped up the opening day of the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championships on Saturday at the Skyhawk Rifle Range on the UT Martin campus.
The Gamecocks posted a 2268 in the smallbore portion of the two-day event. JSU will need a solid day in air rifle on Sunday to capture the overall title. Morehead State edged Murray State by five marks, 2293-2288. UTM tallied a 2269.
Michael Dietz led JSU's smallbore effort with a 581, which ranked second on the individual leaderboard. Dietz finished seven marks back of Murray State's Meike Drewell. Jax State's
Sam Payne fired a 568, while
Mackenzie Van Patten added a 562.
Zach Schmidt and
Taryn Granger rounded out JSU's aggregate with a 557 and 555 respectively.
Sunday's air rifle competition will get start at 8:45 a.m. with the awards ceremony to follow the completion of the championship.
