RICHMOND, Ky. – The Jacksonville State softball team returns to action this weekend with a key Ohio Valley Conference series at Eastern Kentucky.
Â
The Gamecocks (4-11, 3-3 OVC) and Colonels (12-6, 4-2 OVC) are in the middle of the OVC standings early in the season and will play for positioning this weekend in a three-game set at EKU's Gertrude Hood Field.Â
Â
They will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 pm CT, with both games broadcast on ESPN+. The series will conclude with a single game at 12 pm CT on Sunday.
Â
The Gamecocks are looking to turn things around after a slow start to the 2021 season. They are currently tied for sixth in the standings but are only one game behind EKU, who is tied for third. JSU is just two games behind Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri, who are tied for first.
Â
JSU is led at the plate by junior Karsen Mosley's .324 batting average, while senior Jada Terry is also batting above .300 with a .304 clip. Terry's three home runs and 11 RBI both lead the team.
Â
In the circle, Nicole Rodriguez has been JSU's most consistent pitcher, posting a 2.17 earned run average and 36 strikeouts in 29 innings of work. Her 8.7 strikeouts per seven innings leads the OVC. She also holds a 2-1 record on the season.
Â
The Colonels have three players hitting over .400 so far in 2021, led by Jasmine Miller's .429 average. Carly Robinson is batting .412, while Sammi Miller holds a .407 average.
Â
Mollie Paulick leads EKU in the circle with a 3-0 record and 1.17 ERA, while Tori Peterson is 4-1 with a 2.94 ERA and has thrown the most innings for the Colonels.
