MURRAY, Ky. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Murray State at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts on Saturday, dropping its first Ohio Valley Conference matchup of the year.
 
The Gamecocks (8-7, 3-1 OVC) managed a pair of singles victories, led by 
Harriet Hamilton and 
Dariana Prato, but came up short in doubles play while the Racers (6-6, 2-0 OVC) claimed the win with Sarah Bureau's No. 3 contest.
 
MSU took the first two sets of doubles to go up 1-0. It followed up with three straight singles wins to secure the match. Sara Loncarevic downed 
Carolina Bulatovic 6-1 in both sets at No. 1, and Anja Loncarevic defeated 
Sara Jamal 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5. Bureau's identical 6-3, 6-0 sets over Mailin Buechner at No. 3 gave the Racers their second OVC win of the season.
 
Hamilton salvaged JSU's first point, topping Stasya Sharapova 6-4 in straight sets. The junior pushed her team-best number of wins to 13, while Prato kept closely behind by earning the 11th win of her freshman season. Prato saw her No. 4 match go to three sets against Marit Kreugel. Despite dropping the second set 7-6, the freshman won the third set 1-0 and 10-5 in the tiebreaker.
 
Jax State goes back to work Friday, April 9 with a trip to UT Martin. Time for the first serve against the Skyhawks has yet to be announced.
