LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. – Gamecock men's tennis performed well again over the weekend, producing several deep runs in their respective brackets at the Grizzly Open at Georgia Gwinnett College.
 
After falling to the top seed in the first round, freshman 
Agustin Cuellar won the Consolation A Bracket Championship. The Bolivia native defeated North Georgia's Daniel Ostap 6-2, 6-1 in the final. 
 
Sophomore 
Vicente Arbelaez and freshman 
Xavier Sarda Marti and both made the A Bracket Semifinals but succumbed to strong Georgia Gwinnett opponents. Sarda Marti defeated Christopher Cahour 6-1, 6-2 in the Quarterfinals before losing to top seed Dhakshineswar Suresh of Georgia Gwinnett 6-4, 6-2. Arbelaez defeated Ostap in the Round of 16 6-0 6-1, and upset no. 4 seed Aleksa Ciric 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7 in the semifinals, claiming the best win of the tournament for JSU. The second-year standout from Colombia fell in the semifinals to the no. 2 seed, GGC's Alex Gurmendi, 7-6 (3), 6-4
 
Redshirt freshman 
Lucius Soller won the B Singles Draw in an all JSU final, defeating freshman teammate Alejandro Benetyo Sanchez 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 in the championship.
 
The doubles tandem of Cuellar and sophomore 
Daisuke Inagawa also made it to the Doubles Semifinals, losing 8-3 to Suresh and Dahiya, the top seeds of GGC. 
 
"Playing so many strong players from a program like GGC that has such a storied past decade can only help our program going forward," Jacksonville State head coach 
Mike Mucci said following the event. "I think we learned a lot about our team and what we need to do to get better. This week at Regionals will be another test, and we will see how the guys step up and improve as the weeks go on."
 
Jax State's men will take part in the ITA Southern Regionals later this week. That invite, which is hosted by the University of Alabama, will take place Thursday, Oct. 13 through Tuesday, Oct. 18 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
