JSU Soccer Coach Neil Macdonald's Contract Will Not Be Renewed

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State will not renew the contract of head soccer coach Neil Macdonald, Athletics Director Greg Seitz announced on Monday.

Macdonald just completed his 10th season at the helm of the Gamecocks, compiling a 56-108-16 record during that time. His 2022 squad went 3-13-2 with a 1-7-2 record in ASUN play. A veteran on the coaching circuit, he holds a career 258-232-42 career record in 19 seasons as a head coach.

"We want to thank Coach Macdonald for his leadership as our head soccer coach and his service to our University and our student-athletes over the last decade," Seitz said. "We wish him the best and much success in his future endeavors."

Jacksonville State was Macdonald's fourth stop in his coaching career when he took over the program prior to the 2013 season. He enjoyed success early on in his JSU career, claiming the Ohio Valley Conference's Coach of the Year award in 2014.

He guided the Gamecocks into their move to the ASUN Conference in 2021, earning a spot in the ASUN Tournament in their first season. They failed to qualify for the field in 2022.

Another transition sits on the immediate horizon for Jax State, who is scheduled to begin play in Conference USA in the fall of 2023. A national search for just the fourth head coach in the JSU soccer program's history will begin immediately.

"As we head into Conference USA, we decided to go in another direction with our soccer program," Seitz added. "We will begin a nationwide search for our next soccer coach, who will guide us into a new era for Gamecock Athletics in our new conference home."
