Box Score

JACKSONVILLE – The Jax State soccer team defeated Kennesaw State to secure its first Conference USA victory of the year, adding three points to its ledger in the standings. The Gamecocks improve to 4-7-3 (1-2-1), while Kennesaw State falls to 5-6-3 (2-2-0).

The victory also represents the first CUSA win in the Corey Smith era. Jax State's last CUSA victory came on October 26, 2024, which was also against Kennesaw State.

The first half was dominated by the Owls. Kennesaw State had ten shots, and one corner, compared to Jax State's two shots and no corners.

Although the Owls dominated the ball, the Gamecocks took the matches only goal in the 30'. Sunny Ferren took a shot from outside the box, and it bounced over the goalie and onto an Owl defender trying to keep the ball out, heading it into her own goal. The own goal proved to be the difference in the game.

The second half was offensively even with nine shots for both teams, and three corners to one in Kennesaw State's favor. The Gamecocks were able to secure the clean sheet by allowing only two shots on goal in the second half.

Camdyn Magrosky recorded eight saves in the match and had her second clean sheet of the season while helping her Gamecocks secure a huge three points on the season.

Jax State will return home on Saturday, October 17, to host the Sam Houston Bearkats to continue CUSA play. That match is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
