A trip to the CUSA Championship is on the line for Jax State
JACKSONVILLE – Jax State soccer will close out the regular season against New Mexico State for the sixth time in school history. The Gamecocks are 4-9-4 (1-4-2) on the season, while the Aggies are 3-11-3 (2-4-1). New Mexico State leads the all-time series 4-0-1, with the most recent match-up ending in a 1-1 draw in Jacksonville last season.
The Gamecocks are coming off a 2-1 loss to Delaware on Senior Day, with Michelle Hochstadt scoring Jax State's lone goal. Jax State will look to clinch a spot in the CUSA Championship for the first time since 2024.
Jax State can qualify for the tournament with either a win and losses by Mo State, Sam Houston, or Kennesaw State, or with a draw and losses by those teams. With a draw, Jax State would have the most points in that grouping of four with a victory over Kennesaw State and draws against the Bears and Bearkats. The Gamecocks can clinch as high as the sixth seed.
The Gamecocks are led by Emma Reeder and Rebecca Sierra-Burciaga. Reeder leads Jax State with seven goals and 14 points, while Sierra-Burciaga has three goals and two assists. Sunny Ferren has also been a key contributor to the Gamecock attack, leading the team with four assists to go along with two goals.
Gabi Hislop has been a key playmaker for the Aggies, becoming the first Aggie with multiple assists this season, while Emma O'Neill scored the game-winner in a 1-0 win at Middle Tennessee last week.
The game will be played at the New Mexico State Soccer Complex in Las Cruces and will be streamed on ESPN+ at 5 p.m. CT/4 p.m. local.
