Box Score JACKSON – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team earned its first win of the season defeating Jackson State 4-3 in thrilling fashion.

Ella Tuomela opened the match with 6-1 wins in doubles play but Jackson State responded with tightly contest wins in the No. 1 and 3 flights to take the doubles point from the Gamecocks.
Prato evened the match up quickly once singles play began, winning 6-1,6-1 on the No. 4 court. Wins in the No. 6 and No. 1 flights for Jackson State put the Gamecocks behind 3-1 with three matches to play.
Romane Mosses ignited a comeback with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win in the second flight.
Anna Syrova evened the match 3-3 after her 6-7, 6-4, 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot. Tuomela clinched the first win of the season for the Gamecocks after a 6-7, 6-1, win in the No. 5 singles flight.
"The ladies needed this win. We were down 3-1 but the girls just kept battling and all the things we have been talking about and working on in practice and off the court finally paid off," said Head Coach
Mike Mucci. It was so great to see Ella step up in a high-pressure moment and come through. Jackson state is much improved and well coached, so this was a great win for us going forward."
JSU will play its first home match of the season on Saturday, Feb.12 against Wallace State at the JSU Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
