JACKSONVILLE – After having two weeks off due to Mother Nature, Gamecock women's tennis will finally return to the court this weekend. Jacksonville State heads to Troy on Saturday afternoon an important rivalry contest.
"We've had a bit of time off since our last match was postponed, so the ladies are ready to go and excited to compete again," head coach
Mike Mucci said. "We feel we are ready for the challenge of playing another tough road match to see where we are as a team."
Saturday's match at the Lunsford Tennis Complex will begin around 2 p.m. and will follow the men's showdown. Jax State will try for their fifth straight victory on the year and avenge losses in consecutive seasons to the Trojans.
The women's squad (5-1) will play their first match in two weeks in Troy. They were slated to take on Georgia Southern last Sunday, but inclement weather moved that match to Feb. 21. Jacksonville State has had a solid start to their Spring 2023 campaign, however, scoring four consecutive wins over Alcorn State, Jackson State, Lee, and Young Harris.
The Trojan women (3-0), who are looking to rebound after back-to-back losing seasons, have won their first three matches of the year over Florida A&M, Nicholls, and Tennessee State.
This weekend's test will start a three-game road-trip for the Gamecocks, who will play at Georgia Southern on Tuesday and Florida A&M next Friday. Their next home match will be Wed., March 1, in a doubleheader against Mercer and Wallace State Community College.
Saturday's men's match will start at 11 a.m. and the women's will follow, which is slated for a 2 p.m. first-serve. Links to follow along with live stats will be provided at JSUGamecockSports.com.
