JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis concludes a three-match road trip with a non-conference match at Florida A&M on Friday morning. That showdown, which will start at 10 a.m. CST in Tallahassee, Fla., provides the Gamecocks with an opportunity to create another winning streak after suffering a loss at Georgia Southern on Tuesday.
"This will be a challenge for us to see how we respond to a challenging week, both physically and mentally," head coach Mike Mucci said. "FAMU has some talented players that will ask us some questions and I'm excited to see how we respond to a loss. We have a ton of matches coming up so it'll be important for us to get back in winning form."
Jax State (6-2) fell for the first time since mid-January on Tuesday in Statesboro, Ga. Mucci's squad dropped the doubles point and fell behind 3-0 before rallying with a pair of wins in singles competition. Unfortunately, the Gamecocks could not cap it off and lost the match, 5-2, with a pair of three-set heartbreakers late.
The Rattlers (3-7) had a rough start to the season, dropping each of their first even contests. They did play a loaded slate, however, taking on the likes of FGCU, Florida State, and South Florida. Florida A&M did respond well last weekend as the swept the SWAC Cluster One. After shutting out Mississippi Valley State, 5-0, on Friday and Alcorn State, 4-0, on Saturday, FAMU defeated Grambling State 4-0 on Sunday in Jackson, Miss.
That contest in the Sunshine State will start at 10 a.m. CST. Links to follow along with live stats will be provided at JSUGamecockSports.com.
