JSU's Javon Hernandez Named ASUN Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – After hitting .688 in four games to lead Jacksonville State to a 4-0 week, including a win over third-ranked Ole Miss, junior Javon Hernandez has earned the ASUN Conference Player of the Week honor, announced by the league office on Monday.

Hernandez, from Danbury Connecticut, went 11-for-16 at the plate over the four-game span, including back-to-back four-hit games in Jax State's 10-6 win over the Rebels and followed that up against Queens in Friday's 24-hit barrage by the Gamecocks. The Gamecocks' second baseman added three hits on Saturday, including an RBI double in JSU's 6-2 series-clinching win over the Royals.

He sparked Jax State's offense against nationally-ranked Ole Miss with an RBI triple to aid in the Gamecocks extending the lead on Tuesday night. Hernandez finished the week with three RBI out of the two-hole in the lineup and scored five runs. He finished the week reaching base 20 times with four walks in the four games, including three on Sunday versus Queens. Hernandez posted a slugging percentage of .875 and an on-base mark of .750.

Jax State has won six consecutive games and will make its first road trip of the month of March on Tuesday with a visit to Montgomery, Alabama to face Alabama State. First pitch from the Watkins Wheeler Baseball Complex on the ASU campus is set for 6 p.m. Following the midweek contest with the Hornets, the Gamecocks will travel to Louisville, Kentucky for their first ASUN road series of the season. The three-game set with Bellarmine will get started on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. CST.
