JACKSONVILLE – Gamecock women's tennis will carry their hot start to ASUN Conference play on the road for a couple of tough league showdowns this weekend. Jacksonville State will travel to Charlotte, N.C., for a 9 a.m. CST Friday morning match at Queens before heading to Liberty for an 8 a.m. Sunday morning meeting.
"This will be a challenging trip for many reasons, but we are battle-tested and know we can come through these tough bus rides and matches," head coach
Mike Mucci said. "Queens and Liberty both present unique challenges but we feel it is more about us and how we go about our business. I'm excited to see how we compete."
Jax State (13-3, 3-0) picked up its fourth straight win on Monday with a 6-1 shellacking of in-state rival North Alabama. Mucci's women dominated the doubles point and never looked back, posting five two-set singles decisions. That conference victory keeps the Gamecocks undefeated in ASUN play ahead of this weekend's road trip along the east coast.
Queens (5-11, 0-2) is still searching for its first league win as a member of the ASUN Conference. The Royals have beaten just two Division I foes this year- NC Central (4-3) and Hampton (5-2)- and dropped last weekend's conference matches against Austin Peay (6-1) and Kennesaw State (4-0).
As for the Flames (10-6, 1-1), they are trying to again compete for the ASUN title after falling to Stetson in the championship match last Spring. They earned impressive non-league triumphs over ECU, Michigan State, and Navy, and split last week's ASUN-opening matches. They downed Kennesaw State, 6-1, last Friday, then shockingly lost at Lipscomb, 4-3, the following day. Liberty, who has battled some injuries early in the league slate, will meet North Alabama at 10 a.m. CST Friday before playing Jax State on Sunday.
The Gamecocks and Royals have never played before. Jacksonville State dropped last season's matchup at Liberty, however, falling 6-1 in Lynchburg, Va.

Jacksonville State tennis returns home next weekend to host North Florida on March 31 and Kennesaw State on Apr. 2.
