JACKSONVILLE – After three weekends away, the Jacksonville State softball team returns to the friendly confines of University Field on Friday to begin the three-day Jax State Invite.
JSU (10-8) will welcome in-state foe Samford and Western Michigan to the ballpark for a series of contests. The Gamecocks and Bulldogs go back a long way in their regular matchups, while JSU and WMU will meet for the first time on the diamond this weekend.
The weekend slate begins Friday afternoon with Samford and Western Michigan opening things up at 2:30 p.m., before the Broncos turn around and face Jax State at approximately 5:00. Saturday will also start with a SU/WMU contest at noon, followed by JSU versus Samford at 2:30 and JSU versus WMU again at 5:00. If weather allows, JSU and Samford will close the weekend action with a final contest on Sunday at noon.
JSU is coming off a tough 0-4 stretch in Knoxville, Tenn., a week ago where the Gamecocks dropped a pair of games to nationally-ranked Tennessee. The Jax State Invite marks the final non-conference weekend of the season as the Gamecocks remain at home next week to open ASUN Conference play against North Alabama.
Admission to all JSU home softball games is free this season compliments of Martin's Family Clothing.
Live stats to all games are available at JSUGamecockSports.com, along with ESPN+ streaming links for JSU's four games. Originally scheduled to be JSU's first home games of 2023, the Gamecocks played four games against Buffalo and Army at University Field to start the season after weather in across the state line in Georgia alterned a previously scheduled tournament at Mercer.
