JACKSONVILLE – Gamecock women's tennis will resume this weekend's homestand with another important ASUN Conference showdown. After suffering their second straight league defeat on Friday morning against North Florida, Jacksonville State will duke it out with Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. Sunday.
"KSU is a rivalry match that we get up for every year," head coach Mike Mucci said. "We've had a challenging last couple of weeks but I fell like the girls are ready to go for this big matchup and we're excited to compete at home again."
Jax State (14-5, 4-2) won its first four conference bouts but have suddenly dropped back-to-back contests. The Gamecocks lost a nail-biter, 4-3, at Liberty last Sunday and were swept by North Florida on Friday morning. Mucci's squad will try for a rebound at the JSU Tennis Courts on Sunday against a proud KSU (7-6, 2-3) program.
Thus far in 2023, Kennesaw State's women's tennis squad has not been able to engineer the magic outing that occurred in last year's 14-win campaign. This season has been marked by inconsistency for a young Owls group. While they did pick up non-conference wins over Charleston Southern, Georgia State, and UAB, KSU dropped three of their first four league tests before topping North Alabama on the road, 6-1, on Friday afternoon.
Sunday's showdown at the JSU Tennis Courts will be the 12th meeting all-time between the Gamecocks and Owls. KSU, who leads the series 8-3, enters winners of three in a row after downing the Gamecocks, 6-1, in Cobb County, Ga., last April. Jax State's last win over Kennesaw State came on March 19, 2019, in the Peach State. Their most recent home win in the series took place on Feb. 20, 2018.

Jacksonville State's women play two more matches after Kennesaw State to round out the regular season. The Gamecocks host Austin Peay in their home finale next Saturday before heading to Birmingham on Tues., Apr. 11, to play at UAB. Men's action will precede the league pairing with the Governors on Apr. 8, with game-time set for 10 a.m.
