
Gamecocks Start Govs Beach Bash Against APSU, UTC

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Jacksonville State beach volleyball fell in Friday's pairings with Austin Peay and Chattanooga to open the Govs Beach Bash. The Gamecocks lost 5-0 to APSU before suffering a 5-0 setback against the Mocs later in the day.
Austin Peay (14-10) picked up Friday's win over Jax State (0-15-3) with five two-set decisions. Carley Lynch and Brooklyn Schiffli were the most productive pair for the Red-and-White against the Governors, as they turned in 32 total points in a narrow 21-15, 21-17, loss.
The Gamecocks fell to Chattanooga (13-11) in their second test in Clarksville, Tenn., on Friday. The Mocs had four two-set triumphs and posted a slim 18-21, 21-17, 15-9, victory over Lynch and Schiffli on court three in their win. Kylee Quigley and Luci Wilkinson dropped the top flight but battled well, ending up on the wrong side of a 21-18, 21-17 result.
Jacksonville State will conclude action in the Govs Beach Bash tomorrow morning with a pair of non-conference tests. They will meet Austin Peay at 10 a.m. before taking on Chattanooga at 12 p.m.
Tomorrow's matchups in the Volunteer State will be the final of the regular season for the Gamecocks. Their next opportunities will come in the Conference-USA Beach Volleyball Tournament, held Apr. 27-30 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
