JACKSONVILLE – Gamecock men's tennis associate head coach
Trey Morris announced the signing of Monmouth transfer Charlie Penman on Monday morning. With the addition of Penman, an All-MAAC First Team selection in 2022, Jacksonville State's impressive recruiting class continues to grow.
"Charlie is a Gamecock through and through," Morris said. "He is hardworking, motivated, hungry, and very physically gifted. Charlie will set the tone for not only himself but also the entire group on a day-to-day basis with his work rate and desire to achieve greatness. We cannot wait to have him in Jacksonville come August."
The Harrietsham, England, native posted three strong seasons at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J., before singing with Jax State. Following a promising freshman campaign with the Hawks in 2020-21, Penman earned First Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore after going 22-8 in doubles play on court one. He added 15 singles triumphs as well and was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
The future Gamecock turned in another productive season this Spring. He picked up nine triumphs in one-on-one competition and tallied an 8-2 mark in doubles action as well. Furthermore, he served as part of the first duo to represent Monmouth at ITA Northeast Super Regionals alongside primary doubles partner Niels Van Noord.
Jacksonville State men's tennis now has five members of this year's recruiting class. Aman Dahiya (Sonipat, India), Marko Milosavljevic (Vosendorf, Austria), and Zachary Murphy (Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland) will join the program as freshmen in the Fall and Penman will arrive on campus as a senior in August.
