WEST POINT, Miss.—Jax State women's golf tied for ninth at The Ally hosted by Mississippi State at Old Waverly Golf Club.
The Gamecocks posted a 12-over score of 300 in Monday's first round, 299 on Tuesday, and concluded with a 298 in Wednesday's final round. Florida won the tournament by six shots over Mississippi State.
"I am really proud of this team for the way we bounced back from a rough outing last week," said coach
Robbie Fields. "We took a little advice and motivation from our call with Matt Wallace this week and played with the mentality of handling our business. A top-10 finish against such a strong field is certainly a positive and creates some momentum I believe we will take into next week."
Rachel Camp was the top individual for Jax State with an even-par 54-hole total of 216. The redshirt sophomore posted a one-under round of 71 to start the tournament and was one over on Tuesday before closing with an even-par 72 in the final round.
"This week, the team demonstrated good patience and discipline on this course," said Camp. "My performance in this tournament was a significant improvement from last week, though I recognize there's still plenty of work ahead."
Camp carded seven birdies during the tournament.
"I couldn't be more proud of Rachel for the way she stepped up this week," said Fields. "She has put a lot of hard work and focus into her preparation and it paid off. She beat a lot of elite players and is proving to be one of those."
Freshman
Lara El Chaib and
Ebby Somers were 45
th in the standings at +10. El Chaib closed with two rounds of 75 after opening with a 76. Somers posted rounds of 75, 74, and 77.
Sandra Menes was 72
nd in the field with a total of 236 (78-77-81) and
Paula Perez Cubinas was 79
th at 238 (82-82-74).
The Gamecocks will close out the fall portion of their schedule starting on Monday with The Judson at Hattiesburg Country Club in Mississippi.
