FRISCO, Texas—Following the first of three rounds at the Conference USA Women's Golf Championship, Jax State is fourth and has a player at the top of the leaderboard.
As a team, Jax State posted an eight-over team score of 296 which is tied with Middle Tennessee for fourth. Western Kentucky leads following an even-par day of 288, followed by Sam Houston at +4, and Florida International at +7.
Freshman
Julie Kleppe posted a two-under round of 70 to be one of four players tied for first after 18 holes at Stonebriar Country Club. Despite being three over after four holes, Kleppe birdied three of her next four holes to get to even at the turn. She then birdied 11 and 12 to get to two under. After giving one back on 13, she answered with a birdie on 16.
Kleppe's six birdies on the day are tied for the most in the field.
Sophomore
Lara El Chaib is 16
th at two over after playing the back nine at even par. Redshirt junior
Rachel Camp is 21
st with a three-over 75 with the sixth-most pars in the field with 13.

Rebekka Stutley is 30
th after a five-over day of 77 and senior
Ebby Somers is 42
nd with a total of 79.
The second round will begin on Tuesday starting at 10:10 for the Gamecocks which will play with Middle Tennessee and Delaware.
