Second Round Spurs Women’s Golf in Season Opener

CLEMSON, S.C.--Jax State posted one of the best rounds of the Tiger Classic on Monday to finish in seventh place in the 2024-25 opener.

The Gamecocks closed the tournament with a team score of just two over par at 290 during the second round of the 36-hole tournament. It was the fourth-lowest total in the second round. Jax State finished with a total score of 598 after posting a 308 in the first round.

Georgia Southern won the team title by 13 strokes over Campbell.

Jax State was led by Rachel Camp who led the second round charge with a four-under 68 to move up 37 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish 14th. It marked a new career low-round for redshirt sophomore.

"I think this tournament was a good way for us to start our season," said Camp. "It was good to be back with the team and competing with everyone. My coaches and I have been working really hard on my putting and I think that paid off today."

Camp's round was highlighted by an eagle on the Par 4 10th where she holed out from 80 yards.

"Rachel has a special ability to bounce back from round-to-round and that was on full display today," said coach Robbie Fields. "It was a lot of fun being there for her birdie-eagle start to Round 2, and then to see her keep that momentum rolling. She's worked really hard and become a great leader during her time at Jax State, so I couldn't be more proud of her setting her new career-best today."

Sophomore Jinger Heath also shot up the individual standings in the second round with a one-over 73 after a 76 in the first. Heath had three birdies on the card in the second round and placed 31st.

Ebby Somers finished 44th with rounds of 77 and 74 on the day, playing the back nine of the second round at even par.

Emilie Claausen made her Jax State debut with rounds of 80 and 75 to finish 59th on the leaderboard. Sandra Menes was 94th with rounds of 78 and 87.

"I'm very proud of the way we bounced back from Round 1 to 2," said Fields of the team. "There was a lot of emotion and excitement at the start, which was to be expected, so I am happy for our girls to see themselves handle that. We certainly have a lot we can improve on but, overall, I believe this was a good starting point for us and I am so happy to be back competing with this team."

Next up will be the Powercat Classic starting September 9th in Manhattan, Kan.
