MOREHEAD, Ky. — Frans Rasmusson's new school record and smallbore range record of 593 with 31 center shots led the way for No. 16 Jax State rifle's first victory of the season, taking down No. 17 Morehead State, 4695-4657, at the Button Rifle Range on Saturday.
The Gamecocks finished with advantages in both smallbore and air rifle, with the Gamecocks putting up 2329 points in smallbore and 2366 in air rifle, while the Eagles put up 2307 points in smallbore and 2350 points in air rifle.
Jax State claimed four of the top five and six of the top 10 performers in Morehead. Rasmusson was the top individual performer of the day, with a 593 in smallbore and 593 in air rifle for an 1186 aggregate. He also posted 81 center shots on the day.
Sophomore Jenny Ek was the number two performer on the day with a 578 smallbore and 593 in air rifle, for Ana aggregate of 1171 with 69 centers.
Freshman Maja Pedersen and sophomore Alex Watts rounded out the top five, with Pedersen posting scores of 579 in smallbore and 589 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 1168 with 68 centers. Watts was one point behind Pedersen in air rifle was a score of 588, along with a smallbore score of 579 for an aggregate score of 1167 with 68 centers.
In smallbore, the Gamecocks claimed three of the top five spots with Rasmusson (593-31x), Pedersen (579-27x), and Watts (579-26x) finished first, third, and fourth respectively. In air rifle, Rasmusson (593-50x), Ek (593-45x), freshman Akos Marta (592-45x), and Pedersen (589-41x) finished first, third, fourth, and fifth, claiming four of the top five spots.
The Gamecocks will return to action on Sunday, October 26, with a neutral-site match against Murray State in Oxford, Miss. Line-up is scheduled for 9 a.m.
