GLENCOE—The Gamecocks were unable to keep pace with Richmond during the final round of play at RTJ Silver Lakes at the Chris Banister Golf Classic presented by Grub Mart.
The day started with Jax State and Richmond tied at the top of the standings and finished with the hosts in second place, five shots back.
Jax State finished the 54-hole round tournament with a total of 928 (+64), posting 298 in the first, 311 in the second, and 319 in Tuesday's final round.
"The Chris Banister is always a special week," said coach
Robbie Fields. "Silver Lakes is a tough test that I believed we were well prepared for after the last few weeks of prep work. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find confidence and trust in ourselves the way we should on our home course. This team works so hard, but that effort has to translate to trust and commitment in the heat of the moment. This was a first for a lot of our team being in this situation and we are going to learn from it and I believe we will be better next opportunity we have."
Sandra Menes was the top finisher on the roster in fifth place with a total of 231 (+15), closing with an 80 after rounds of 75 and 76 the first two days.
"I am excited for Sandra earning her career-best finish this week," said Fields. "She has worked really hard on all aspects of her game and is starting to see the benefits. We are starting to see what I believe she is capable of and I look forward to her continued growth."
Menes led the field in Par 3 scoring at even and had seven birdies on the week which was tied for third-most.
"It's always exiting to play on our home course, and it was fun to play this week and see how my game has developed over the past weeks," said Menes. "The team has put a lot of effort in the last few weeks and I'm exited for what's ahead."
Ebby Somers was three shots back in a tie for 11th, also posting an 80 in the final round after posting 76 and 78 to open the tournament.
