DADE CITY, Fla.—Jax State was eighth at the Spring Break Shootout hosted by Western Kentucky at Lake Jovita.
The Gamecocks posted a total of 906 for the 54-hole event, posting 304 and 300 rounds on Monday, and closed out the tournament with a 302 in Tuesday's final round. Florida Gulf Coast won the event at 866.
"Sometimes this game can beat you down for a stretch, and right now we're experiencing that across the board," said coach
Robbie Fields. "I'm hopeful that some time off before our next trip will be a good reset for everybody."
Redshirt sophomore
Rachel Camp was the top finisher on the roster with a total of +8 to finish 12
th. Camp opened the tournament with a four-over round of 75, playing her second nine holes of the day at even. She shaved a stroke off her second round of the day for a 74, and posted a one-over 72 in the final round with a bogey on her 18
th hole.
"It's encouraging to see Rachel playing some better golf," said Fields. "She's definitely trending in the right direction now."
Freshman
Rebekka Stutley was 15
th with a 10-over total for the tournament. After a 75 in the first round, Stutley started her second round hot with three birdies in her first nine holes and finished with a one-over 72. She finished the week with a 76 in the third round.
Fresh off an appearance in the Asia Pacific Women's Amateur,
Lara El Chaib was 27
th with a score of +14. The freshman posted 77 in both rounds on Monday and closed with a 73 on Tuesday.
Senior
Paula Perez Cubinas posted +16 to finish 34
th in the field with rounds of 75, 74, and 80.
Ebby Somers placed 60
th with a total of 236 (78-77-81), and
Sandra Menes was 64
th with a total of 237 (77-78-82).
The Gamecocks will head to Ironwood Golf & Country Club in North Carolina March 31
st for their final tournament of the regular season.
