JACKSONVILLE – Women's tennis dismantled Wallace State-Hanceville Tuesday afternoon in a 7-0 home win. After taking the doubles point, the Gamecocks took down the Lions in every singles match en route to their seventh win of the year.
Lea Erenda and
Anna Syrova played in the No. 1 slot against Sophia Baillos and Noelle D'Angelillo. The Gamecocks' pairing won 6-1.
Irene Artigas and
Aneka Patel then won 6-1 as well on court two over Jaedyn Martin and Indira Wilson.
Ava Thomason and
Ella Tuomela blanked Chloe Baines and Joslyn Newton 6-0 on court three to claim the doubles point.
In solo play, D'Angelillo took the first set over Erenda by a score of 6-3. Erenda then won the second in tiebreakers 7-6 (9-7). Erenda then took the match in a 10-7 third set to put the Gamecocks ahead 2-0. Syrova then handled Baillos on court two in a pair of 6-0 set wins.
Patel won a close first set that came down to tiebreakers against Martin on court three 7-6 (7-4). Patel then clinched the second set 6-2. Artigas won the first set on court four 6-1, then took the second 6-3. Tuomela downed Newton 6-1 in their first set, then took the second 6-0. Thomason cleaned things up on court six with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Madison Files.
The Gamecocks now head to West Florida on Tuesday, March 25 for a 1 p.m. first-serve. After the trip to West Florida, Jax State travels to South Alabama on March 16 for a 1 p.m. start.
