Women's Tennis Hosts Tennessee State Before Going to MTSU

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis has back-to-back matches this weekend against a pair of teams from Tennessee. The Gamecocks begin the week with a home match against Tennessee State at 10 a.m. on Friday before heading to Middle Tennessee on Saturday for a 1 p.m. first-serve.
The Gamecocks are 8-5 on the year and riding a two-match winning streak. Tennessee State is 1-10 on the season, while Middle Tennessee sits at 12-6 and are on a two-match winning streak as well.
In singles, Jax State has collected an impressive 42-22 record as a team. The Gamecocks are led by Zuzana Pavelekova who has a 9-2 record. Anna Syrova follows with an 8-3 record, Irene Artigas is 7-3, Polina Ramenskaja is 6-5, Aneka Patel is 5-2, Lea Erenda is 4-6, Ella Tuomela is 2-1, and Ava Thomason is 1-0.
Jax State also holds a winning record in doubles action as they are 20-14 on the season. The duo of Patel and Artigas paces the Red-and-White with a 7-5 mark. Syrova and Pavelekova are 2-1, Ramenskaja and Erenda are 3-2, Ramenskaja and Tuomela are 2-1, Syrova and Tuomela are 2-2, Syrova and Erenda are 1-1, Thomason and Tuomela are 1-0, and Thomason and Erenda are 1-2.
TSU is 14-45 in singles play this Spring. Francisca Gomez-Weiss leads the way with a 5-4 record. Jovana Nikolic is 3-6, Louise Ratiu is 2-5, Aroa Arrieta Castillo is 2-5, Victoria Cooksey is 1-7, and Sydney Brantley is 1-5. No other Tigers have a win in singles thus far.
The Tigers are 8-21 in doubles. Brantley and Cooksey are 2-2, Gomez-Weiss and Walsh are 2-3, Claudia Murdasanu and Nikolic are 1-1, Cooksey and Murdasanu are 1-0, Cooksey and Nikolic are 1-1, Warona Mdlulwa and Gomez-Weiss are 1-0, and no other doubles teams have a win.
For Middle Tennessee, they are 52-34 in singles and 30-14 in doubles. Ilaria Sposetti have a team-high are 10-4 sinlges record, Cassidy Mataia is 9-4, Alessia Truden is 8-4, Lena Peyer is 8-7, Rutuja Chaphalkar is 6-3, Zenn Lim is 6-6, Sara Conde is 3-5, and Eloise Swarbrick is 2-1.
The Blue Raiders are led by the duo of Chaphalkar and Truden who have an impressive 13-2 doubles record. Sposetti and Mataia are trailing closely at 12-3, Chaphalkar and Peyer are 1-0, Conde and Swarbrick are 1-0, Mataia and Lim are 1-0, Peyer and Conde are 1-0, and Swarbrick and Peyer are 1-9.
Following the weekend matches, Jax State returns home to face in-state rival UAB on Tuesday, April 1, in a 1 p.m. first-serve.
