Women's Tennis Welcomes UAB to Jax State Tennis Courts Tuesday

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis returns home to face in-state rival UAB on Tuesday, April 1, at 1 p.m. The Gamecocks and Blazers will face one another for the 26th time in the history of the two programs.
Jax State holds a 9-6 record after a 4-2 loss at Middle Tennessee on Saturday, March 29. Meanwhile, UAB is coming off a 4-0 win at Western Kentucky also on March 29. In the series history between Jax State and UAB, the Blazers have a 21-4 record over the Gamecocks.
Jax State has an impressive 48-27 record in singles play overall this season. The Gamecocks are led by Zuzana Pavelekova who is 11-2 on the year. Other top performers include Irene Artigas and Anna Syrova who are both 8-4, Polina Ramenskaja who is 7-6, Aneka Patel who is 5-2, and Ella Tuomela who is 3-2. Ava Thomason is 1-0 and Lea Erenda is 5-7, respectively.
In doubles play, Jax State is 25-14. The pairing of Patel and Artigas pace the Gamecocks at 8-5 on the year. Pavelekova and Syrova are 4-1, Ramenskaja and Tuomela are 4-1, Ramenskaja and Erenda are 3-2, Tuomela and Syrova are 2-2, Thomason and Tuomela and Pavelekova and Ramenskaja are 1-0, Erenda and Syrova are 1-1, and Erenda and Thomason are 1-2.
UAB is 102-77 as a team in singles action this Spring. Adela Wasserbauerova leads the way with a 21-9 record, Vanessa Mellynchuk is 17-8, Mackenzie White is 17-11, Sydney Clarke is 17-12, and Enya Ratkic is 11-8. The Balzers also have Maggie white at 2-1, Klara Kajabova at 10-12, and Annalisa Smith at 7-16.
In doubles, the Blazers post a 46-30 record. Mellynchuk and Mackenzie White have the best doubles record at 14-9, with Clarke and Wasserbauerova 13-8 trailing closely. Maggie White and Kajabova are 6-3 and Kajabova and Ratkic are 3-2. Eight different doubles pairings have a 1-0 record for the Blazers, while two are 0-1 and Kajabova and Wasserbauerova are 0-2.
Following the match against UAB, women's tennis hosts Kennesaw State on Friday, April 11. The match against the Owls starts at 1 p.m. and will be Senior Day for the Gamecocks.
