
Gamecocks Travel to Louisiana for Weekend Series

RUSTON – Jax State looks to build off last weekend's series victory over FIU when it travels to Ruston, La. for a three game Conference USA series against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs this weekend. The Gamecocks enter the series with a 6-6 record in CUSA play.

Elrod, Underwood Claim CUSA Weekly Honors
Following a 3-1 weekend, Emma Elrod was named the Conference USA Player of the Week while Jaci Underwood earned Conference USA Freshman of the Week honors for their dominant offensive outbursts. Elrod led Jax State with eight hits in 15 at bats for a .533 batting average across four games while Underwood tacked on five extra base hits in 10 at bats, batting .600.
Gamecocks Bounce Back Against FIU
Following a five-game CUSA losing skid, the Jacksonville State softball team was able to bounce back last weekend by picking up a pair of wins over the visiting FIU Panthers. Jax State took the first game 7-5 before dominating the Florida foes for an 11-3 run rule victory in just five innings in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader. Jax State fell in the third game 6-3.
Captain Carter
With a team-best 2.11 ERA, Kat Carter has been the premier pitcher for Jax State this season. The senior has tossed 79.2 innings with eight wins and two saves in 18 appearances. Of her 12 starts, Carter has tossed nine complete games including four complete game shutouts. She has also recorded 67 strikeouts this year.
Mak Makes it Count
Jax State junior Makalyn Kyser has just three hits in 20 at bats on the season, however in those three hits, Kyser has produced seven RBI's. Kyser has two homers to her name, a three-run shot against FIU and a two-run bomb against Chattanooga, also managing a two-run single against the Panthers.
Freshman Power
Jax State freshman Kailey Martin sits tied for the team lead with nine home runs on the season. Martin launched three homers in four games two weeks prior, torching New Mexico State for nine RBI's in the three game series. Martin also leads Jax State in RBI's this season with 36.
Rookies in the Field
The Jax State defensive lineup is littered with freshmen in the 2025 season, with 108 of 144 infield starts being made by rookies this season. Jaci Underwood, Kailey Martin and Aria Davis have each made 36 starts, with Ashley Phillips being the lone returner in the infield lineup so far this year.
