JACKSONVILLE – Jax State women's basketball is set to host UTEP Saturday at Noon following a 57-46 victory over New Mexico State Thursday. The game versus UTEP was moved from 1:30 p.m. to 12 p.m. due to potential winter weather affecting UTEP's travel plans.

Jax State's stout defense held New Mexico State to 20-of-56 shooting from the floor and 2-of-15 from three in Thursday's contest.
Adriana Jones led the Gamecocks with 20 points, while
Makala Hobdy added 11 points.
Mya Barnes did not have her typical scoring output against the Aggies but impressed on the glass as she has all season grabbing a team-best 13 rebounds.
Jones' Night
Jones scored a team-best 20 points in a home win against New Mexico State on Jan. 22. Jones shot 7-of-13 from the floor and nailed two three pointers as well. The 20 points against the Aggies is the second most Jones has scored this season. On Nov. 13, the Troy transfer had a career-night scoring 26 points on 9-of-15 from the floor.
Shooters Shoot
The Gamecocks rank first in CUSA with an average of 8.2 threes made per game. They also have shot 148 threes thus far, which also ranks first in the league. At Kennesaw State on Jan. 17, Jax State hit a season-high 14 threes, including seven made shots from range at halftime. Against the Owls, the 14 makes were on an efficient 28 attempts.

Barnes ranks tied for fourth in CUSA with an average of 1.1 blocks per game. Barnes is tied for fifth in the conference averaging 2.1 made threes per game, is tied for 5th in the league with an average of 8.5 rebounds per game and is tied for 17th in CUSA averaging 11.2 points.
Kyera Thornsbury ranks 2nd in CUSA with a 2.6 assist to turnover ratio. Jones is tied for 21st in CUSA averaging 10.6 points per game.
Stepping Up In Conference
Jax State has plenty of players upping their game in league action thus far. Barnes is leading the Gamecocks playing at a possible all-conference level scoring 12.5 points per game and pulling down 10.2 rebounds per contest in league play.
Brooklyn McDaniel and Jones both average 12.0 points per game in conference action.
Series History
Saturday marks the fifth time Jax State and UTEP have matched up. Currently, the all-time series is tied at 2-2. Jax State is 2-0 all-time in Jacksonville, while UTEP is 2-0 all-time in El Paso, Texas. Jax State won the first meeting 70-62 at home on Feb. 1, 2024. UTEP won the most recent contest 52-44 in El Paso on Feb. 22, 2025.
