LINCOLN, Neb. - The 14th-ranked Jax State rifle squad fell to second-ranked Nebraska on both Saturday and Sunday at the Nebraska Rifle Range.
The Gamecocks fell to 9-4 on the season and saw an eight-match win streak come to an end, while the Huskers improved to 17-1.
On Saturday, Nebraska got the better of the Gamecocks by a score of 4741-4668, with the Huskers taking the smallbore section (2356-2305), and the air rifle by a thinner margin (2385-2363).
Frans Rasmusson was the only Gamecock to finish in the top five on Saturday, with an aggregate score of 1176 with 75 centers. He posted a score of 584 in smallbore and 592 in air rifle.
Freshmen
Maja Pedersen and
Akos Marta both finished in the top 10 on Saturday at seventh and ninth, respectively. Pedersen had an aggregate of 1170 with a score of 585 in both smallbore and air rifle. Marta posted a score of 573 in smallbore and 594 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1167.
On Sunday, Nebraska would claim a 4731-4660 victory behind a smallbore aggregate of 2349 to Jax State's 2303, and an air rifle aggregate of 2382 to Jax State's 2357.
Rasmusson was the top performer of the match on Sunday with an aggregate score of 1184 with 83 centers, with a smallbore score of 589 and an air rifle score of 595.
Marta finished third to round of the Gamecocks in the top five, with a smallbore score of 578 and an air rifle score of 596 for an aggregate of 1174.
Alex Watts,
Jenny Ek,
Annie Iannotti, and Pedersen all finished sixth through ninths, with Watts and Ek both posting air rifle aggregates of 583. Iannotti had the highest smallbore aggregate of the group with 572.
Jax State will return home to take on Murray State on Saturday, February 14. Action from the Gamecock Rifle Range will begin at 9 a.m.
