Women's Basketball Wraps Up Final Road Trip Of The Season

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Jacksonville State women's basketball ends the final road trip of the season at New Mexico Saturday. The Gamecocks currently sit in seventh place of the CUSA standings with two games remaining before the conclusion of the regular season.

Last Time Out
Jax State is coming off a 66-64 loss at UTEP Thursday night. UTEP went on a late 10-0 run to get the win over the Gamecocks. Against the Miners, Mya Barnes was phenomenal as she recorded a 20-point, 15 rebound double-double. The performance was Barnes' eighth double-double of the season. Brooklyn McDaniel had another stellar night scoring against UTEP as she went for 19 points.
 
Barnes Has Been Ballin'
Over the last three games, Barnes has had three-straight double-doubles. Against LA Tech (Feb. 19), Barnes had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Against Sam Houston (Feb. 21), Barnes had 12 points and grabbed 12 boards. Meanwhile at UTEP, Barnes had 20 points and a career-best 15 rebounds. Against the Miners, Barnes pulled down 10 of her 15 rebounds in the first quarter and scored nine points in the opening period. Barnes is averaging 11.7 points and 8.9 rebounds in CUSA play this season.
 
McDaniel's Career Day
Brooklyn McDaniel set a career-high 21 points and a career-best 13 rebounds against Sam Houston on Feb. 21. The double-double was McDaniel's first career double-double and made her the third Gamecock to record a double-double this season. Barnes has eight double-doubles and Mina Djurdjevic has one. McDaniel had 19 at UTEP on Feb. 26.
For Three
The Gamecocks rank first in CUSA with an average of 8.0 threes made per game. They also have shot 225 threes thus far, which also ranks first in the league. At Kennesaw State on Jan. 17, Jax State hit a season-high 14 threes, including seven made shots from range at halftime. Against the Owls, the 14 makes were on an efficient 28 attempts.
 
Barnes Preseason Honors
Barnes was selected to the 2025-26 Preseason All-CUSA Team. Barnes averaged 7.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks on 27.8 minutes per game last season. Barnes' 1.2 blocks per game and 35 total blocks ranked her fifth in the league in both categories last season. Barnes averages 11.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game this season on 32.6 minutes per game. She has played at all-conference level all-season and will likely be honored as such when the postseason awards are announced in the coming weeks.
 
Series History
The Gamecocks and Aggies are set to play for the sixth time all-time Saturday afternoon. Jax State holds a 4-1 record against New Mexico State, including a 3-0 record in Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Gamecocks won the first ever meeting 56-49 at home on Feb. 3, 2024. In the most recent matchup, Jax State came out on top 57-46 on Jan. 22 of this year.
