EL PASO, Texas – Jacksonville State women's basketball heads west for the final road trip of the season. The Gamecocks begin the trip by visiting UTEP on Thursday after a 1-1 weekend at home against Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston last week.

Mya Barnes recorded her team leading seventh-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Meanwhile, the Gamecocks were led by
Brooklyn McDaniel who recorded her first career double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Barnes drilled a game winning three with 6.2 seconds left in the game to give the Gamecocks 69-68 victory.
Barnes Double-Doubles
Barnes recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds against Sam Houston. Barnes had a double-double against Mercer (Dec. 6), Brewton-Parker (Dec. 9), Presbyterian (Dec. 21), FIU (Jan. 8), and Kennesaw State (Jan. 17), and LA Tech (Feb. 19). Barnes is also the first Gamecock to have back-to-back double-doubles since Kennedy Gavin in the 2021-22 season. She has had back-to-back double-doubles twice this season.
McDaniel's Career Day
Brooklyn McDaniel set a career-high 21 points and a career-best 13 rebounds against Sam Houston on Feb. 21. The double-double was McDaniel's first career double-double and made her the third Gamecock to record a double-double this season. Barnes has seven double-doubles and
Mina Djurdjevic has one.
Gamecocks Stellar Defense Against LA Tech
Against first-place LA Tech on Feb. 19, the Gamecocks came within one point of victory. Jax State held LA Tech to their second lowest point total of the season and lowest point total in CUSA play this year. Baylor, who was ranked 15th in the country, is the only other team to hold LA Tech to fewer points than Jax State (46 on Nov. 26).
Coming Down The Stretch
Jax State currently sits in seventh place in the CUSA standings with three games remaining in the regular season. In CUSA play, Barnes leads the way averaging 11.1 points per game and averaging 8.5 rebounds per contest.
Adriana Jones averages 9.8 points per game in league play. McDaniel averages the next most rebounds per game in CUSA play with an average of 5.1 boards and 9.5 points. Jax State was picked to finish in last place in the preseason poll, but the Gamecocks have exceeded expectations.
Series History
Jax State has a slight 3-2 all-time lead over the UTEP Miners. The Gamecocks won the first ever meeting 70-62 on Feb. 1, 2024. In the most recent meeting, Jax State won 73-60 in Pete Mathews Coliseum. The Gamecocks had a balanced attack as five players scored in double-figures.
