Men's Tennis Continues Hot Start To Season At Mercer

MACON, Ga. – Gamecocks men's tennis earned their second road victory of the season with a 6-1 triumph at Mercer University Sunday afternoon.
 
The Gamecocks improved to 4-0 with the win against the Bears.
 
Jax State began the day with a win in doubles to take an early 1-0 advantage. Alin Fatu and Charlie Penman won 6-2 on doubles court three in the first match to go final. Mercer then matched with a win on doubles court one with a 6-3 win over Timo De Visser and Aman Dahiya. The doubles point came down to a decisive match on court two where David Krasner and Lucius Soller clinched the point with a 6-4 win.
 
All but one Gamecock came out victorious in singles action. Penman fell on court one to Isak Padio. Padio won the first set 6-3 before taking the match in the second set. The second set came down to tiebreakers with Penman falling 7-6 (13-11). The loss was the lone point Mercer took from the Gamecocks.
 
Krasner was the first to finish in singles with a straight-set win over Nemanja Stefanovic. Krasner took both the first and second with a score of 6-1 in both sets. Soller kept the winning rolling on court six with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Howell Burns to put the Gamecocks up 3-0.
 
De Visser was matched up with Shingo Masuda on court four where he took the first set 7-5 and was up 2-0 before Masuda withdrew from the match. De Visser won due to retirement by the opponent. Dahiya played a tight match against Alex Aldaz on court three where he took the opening set 6-2. Aldaz responded with a 6-2 second set win, but Dahiya closed out the match with a 6-4 third set to make it 5-1 Gamecocks.
 
Fatu's match was the last to wrap up as he took down Prince Gandonou on court five. Gandonou won the first set 7-6. Fatu responded with a second set win that went to tiebreakers. Fatu took the second set 7-6 (7-5). Fatu won the third in another set that went to tiebreakers by a score of 1-0 (10-7) to close out the win for Jax State.
 
Men's tennis is back at home Saturday, Feb. 14, against Troy. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start at the Jax State Tennis Courts.
