
Ramenskaja's Singles Victory Ensures Road Win At Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – Jacksonville State women's tennis is back in the win column thanks to a hard-fought 4-3 road win over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels Wednesday afternoon. The Gamecocks improved to 6-4 with the victory.
After falling 4-1 against Louisiana Tech at home on Sunday, Gamecocks women's tennis bounced back and earned a road win thanks to stellar play in singles, including a match clinching victory from Polina Ramenskaja.
In the number one doubles flight, Ramenskaja and Aneka Patel got the first triumph of the day with a 6-2 final over EKU's Anastas Cherniakova and Masha Fedenko. On court three, Irene Artigas and Emma Montagner were downed 6-3 by Marilou Cote and Sasha Parkhomenko.
Eastern Kentucky clinched the doubles point when Zhansaya Bakytzhan and Izem Elif Olcer beat Jax State's Sae Kaneko and Angeles Rodriguez-Rizo 6-4 on court two.
In singles, EKU took an early 2-0 lead after Patel was defeated 6-0, 6-4 on court two by Fedenko. Olcer then won via retirement on court four over Rodriguez-Rizo. Rodriguez-Rizo was leading 5-4 in the first set before having to withdraw from the match.
Artigas got the Gamecocks on the board with a straight-set victory over Cote. Artigas won 6-0, 5-0 on court three to cut EKU's lead to 3-1. Kaneko made the match 3-2 with her court six win against Bakytzhan. Kaneko won 6-3, 6-1.
On court five, Montagner tied the match for Jax State with a two-set victory. Montagner downed Cherniakova 6-4, 6-3 to tie the match at 3-3 and make it match point for both squads. On court one, Ramenskaja earned a tightly contested triumph over Parkhomenko to clinch the match win for Jax State. Ramenskaja won the opening set 6-2 before winning in tie breakers by a score of 6-6 (4-3) in the second.
Women's tennis is back in action on Thursday at Cumberlands for a 1 p.m. first-serve.
