Men’s Golf Heads to Birmingham for G-Mac Invitational

JACKSONVILLE—Jax State will make the short trip to Inverness Country Club in Birmingham for UAB's G-Mac Invitational which starts Sunday at 8 a.m.
In the first tournament of the fall at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate at The Grande Dunes, the Gamecocks were tied for 11th with a strong start to the tournament with an eight-under first round team score of 280 before finishing with totals of 300 and 290.
Junior Ben Shedd placed fourth in the 90-player field with a 10-under 54-hole score of 206 with two of his three rounds under 70. The Cullman native recorded 18 birdies which was tied for second-most in the field and just one behind the lead. He did most of his scoring on Par 5 holes where he was eight-under and played them at an average of 4.33.
Raphael Turcaud had two rounds under par in his first tournament with the Gamecocks, opening and closing with one-under rounds of 71 to finish in a tie for 59th.
Inverness will play as a Par 70 course measuring 6731 yards.
The 54-hole tournament covers three days with one 18-hole round each day. The Gamecocks will start the tournament in the first wave on Sunday off the first tee with USC Upstate and UAB. Starting holes and tee times for the second and third rounds will be determined based on the standings.
