Men’s Golf 11th in Fall Opener

Jax State tied for 11th at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate, hosted by Coastal Carolina at The Grande Dunes Resort Club.
The Gamecocks got off to a solid start with four players in red numbers and were tied for fifth after 18 holes. A 12-over day on Monday hurt the standings but the team bounced back with a two-over score of 290 in Tuesday's final round to finish the tournament at six over par as a group.
Coastal Carolina won the event at 29-under by nine shots over Elon.
Individually, junior Ben Shedd was fourth in the field, just two shots off the lead with a 54-hole total of 10-under. The Cullman native posted a five-under round of 67 on Sunday which was highlighted by a four-under 32 on the back nine. Shedd posted 69 in Monday's second round and 70 in the final round.
Sophomore Tyler Neidel tied for 44th with a three-over total. He shot a one-under 71 to start the tournament which was followed by a 76 on Monday. An eagle on the 571 yard, Par 5 seventh in the final round got him to one-under and a birdie on nine got him a 34 at the turn before finishing the day with an even-par 72.
Raphael Turcaud was tied for 59th in his Jax State debut with a par of one-under 71s on Sunday and Tuesday around an 80 on Monday to finish the tournament at six-over. Will Drake was a shot back in 62nd with totals of 71, 75, and 77.
Jules Haessig was 89th at 17-over with rounds of 75, 80, and 78.
Next up will be the G-Mac Invitational at Inverness Country Club in Birmingham starting September 20th.
