Alabama A&M Rallies To Defeat JSU Soccer

JACKSONVILLE –
Alabama A&M (4-7-1) scored three second half goals to erase a 2-1 halftime deficit and take a 4-2 win over Jacksonville State (5-8-3) at the JSU Soccer Field on Friday.

Alabama A&M got on the board first 13 minutes into the contest. Madelyn Pittman played a soft pass back to Belinda Kanda, whose shot skimmed off the bottom of the cross bar into the goal for a 1-0 AAMU lead.

Jacksonville State netted the equalizer five minutes later. Lindsay Boehmler tucked away a cross from Chelsea Pelletier past the Bulldog keeper to tie the game 1-1.

Pelletier gave JSU a 2-1 lead, scoring her team-leading seventh goal of the season off a feed from Amber DeLaney in the 32nd minute.

Christina Igono scored off a corner kick from LeTisha Davis to tie the game, 2-2, with just 1:35 gone off the second half clock.

Alabama A&M was awarded a penalty kick when JSU got called for a foul in the box in the 68th minute. Davis converted the penalty to kick to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.

The Bulldogs added an insurance goal when Joice Avila scored on Davis' second assist of the night in the 81st minute.

Jacksonville State out shot AAMU 22-12 on the night. Pelletier led JSU with four shots followed by Boehmler, Delaney and Gorham with three apiece.

Kate Kelly recorded two saves in goal for JSU while Racquel Johnson made 10 stops for AAMU.

Jacksonville State returns to the pitch on Friday when Morehead State visits the JSU Soccer field for a 7 p.m. match.  JSU will close out the 2008 regular season against Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m.
