BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State placed nine players on the Ohio Valley Conference All-Conference football teams, as voted by the league's head coach and sports information directors.
Maurice Dupree Alexander Henderson and Carnell Clark were all named to the OVC first-team, while Ryan Perrilloux, Daniel Jackson Keith Gergel, Gavin Hallford and Brandt Thomas all earned second-team All-OVC honors. A.J. Davis and Perrilloux were both named to the OVC All-Newcomer team, while Dupree was a second-team selection as a return specialist.
“I think the fact that we had nine players earn All-OVC honors is a credit to the success of our football team this season,” said JSU head coach Jack Crowe. “Each of these student-athletes are very deserving of these honors.”
Dupree, from Centre, was named to the offensive first-team as a wide receiver. The senior set a school record this season after catching 10 touchdown passes. He finished the season with 799 yards on 49 catches and averaged 72.6 yards per game.
Henderson, from Mobile, was a first-team selection on the defensive side of the ball at linebacker. The junior led the Gamecocks this season with 103 tackles, including nine for loss with a pair of sacks. He posted back-to-back 20 tackle games this season and was just one of two FCS players to accomplish that feat this season.
Clark, a product of Parker High School in Birmingham, was a first-team selection at defensive back. The junior was second on the team with 66 tackles, including 39 solo stops. He added two interceptions, five pass break-ups and recovered three fumbles.
Perrilloux was named second-team after becoming just the third player to pass for more than 2,300 yards in JSU's history. He finished 187-for-297 for 2,318 yards and 19 touchdowns. The LaPlace, La., native was second on the team with 368 rushing yards and added seven more rushing touchdowns. He was named the OVC Player or Newcomer of the Week seven times during the season.
Jackson, from Florence, was named All-OVC second team after leading the Gamecock rushing attack with 815 yards on 128 carries. He finished with three rushing touchdowns and also added 148 receiving yards.
Senior Keith Gergel was named second-team offensive lineman after helping the JSU offense lead the Ohio Valley Conference in total offense. The Roswell, Ga., native started all 11 games for the Gamecock, which averaged 408.09 yards of total offense per game.
Thomas was a second-team selection on the defensive line. The Wellborn High School product started all 11 games at nose tackle and finished the season with 34 tackles, including 22 solo stops. He also added six tackles for loss with a team-high three sacks for 20 yards and two fumbles forced.
Hallford was named second-team kicker after setting the OVC record for most points by a kicker with 311 career points. He finished his four-year career as the leading scorer in JSU history and the second all-time scorer in OVC history. The Phenix City, Ala., finished his career with a school record 50 field goals and 161 extra points made.
Dupree was also named to the second-team as the return specialist after leading the OVC in kickoff returns and was second in punt returns. The Centre, Ala., native averaged 28.26 yards per kickoff and 11.35 yards per punt return to rank among the national leaders.
Davis, a freshman from Birmingham, joined Perrilloux on the All-Newcomer squad. Davis led the Gamecocks with three interceptions from his defensive back position and started all 11 games as a true freshman. He finished fifth on the team with 41 tackles, including 30 solo stops.
