JSU Volleyball To Start Five-Match OVC Homestand on Friday

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State volleyball team will get a five-match homestand underway this weekend, when the Gamecocks open Ohio Valley Conference play at Pete Mathews Coliseum on Friday night.

The Gamecocks (4-7) will begin their quest for a fourth OVC title in four years at 7 p.m. on Friday night, when defending OVC Tournament Champion Tennessee State comes calling for the first of five home matches for JSU over a nine-day stretch. Austin Peay will be in town for a 2 p.m. Saturday match that will wrap up the weekend.

The Gamecocks are looking to snap a three-match losing skid but are returning to thee friendly confines of Pete Mathews Coliseum, where they are 35-6 in regular season OVC matches and have won 19 of their last 21 conference matches. The Gamecocks are 11-3 all-time against TSU and hold an 8-6 advantage in the Austin Peay series.

Sophomore Brooke Schumacher currently leads the Gamecocks and the OVC in assists with an average of 10.0 per game. The Lake In The Hills, Ill., native is also third on the team in digs, behind just freshman Lauren Harkins and junior Brittney Whitten. A native of Louisville, Ky., Harkins ranks third in the OVC with 4.36 digs per game, while Whitten, the team's kills leader from Boonville, Ind., ranks fifth in the league with 4.03 digs per game.
