CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay scored a second half goal and made it hold up to slip past Jacksonville State, 1-0, in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both schools on Friday.
 
The loss snapped the Gamecocks three game winning streak, falling to 3-5-2 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play. Austin Peay ended a three-game losing streak as the Lady Govs improved to 3-7-0 and 1-0-0 in the OVC. 
 
Rian Barger tucked home a rebound of a Kellie Cannon shot in the 67th minute that proved to be the game winning goal for the a Lady Govs. 
 
Kaitlyn MacLellan, Lindsay Boehmler and Chelsea Pelletier had scoring opportunities in the first half. MacLellan's and Beohmler's chances came in the 22nd and 23rd minutes and Pelletier's was in the 35th minute.
 
 Ally Brosius, Casey Brettman and Pelletier were the second half scoring threats. Brosius's shot came in the 67th minute and Brettman's was shortly after in the 68th minute.   Pelletier had the last opportunity for the Gamecocks in the 88th minute.
 
Austin Peay had a 16-13 advantage in shots, including an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. APSU's Carly Newman and JSU's Kate Kelly were each credited with six saves. 
 
Jacksonville State wraps up the two-game road trip at Tennessee Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.
