COACH JACK CROWE
On The Alabama A&M Game
“We're very happy with the outcome of the game. We arrived at the game focused. We made our kicking game a priority. We definitely stepped it up this week and had more productivity from more players than we've had in along time. Eric Russell is the one player that distinguished himself, even though there were quite a few. Alan Bonner was the OVC Special Teams Player of the Week and that's something that we can take as a building block for games to come.”
On JSU's Offense and Defense
“We had a good defensive night. We gave up some plays, but overall we did well. Offensively, Ryan had a great day throwing. However, we were inconsistent with our running game. We had more glitches in more places than we've had in a long time. Our one remaining challenge is to get our running game to where we can protect our quarterback when we do throw. There were pieces of our performance that were good but now we need to get it all tied together.”
On The Nicholls State Game
“We're going to Thibodaux, Louisiana, to play Nicholls State. Coach (Jay) Thomas has done a great job with that program. They won the Southland and were in the playoffs three years ago. Last year, they didn't win many games, but they beat the best teams on their schedule. They beat the two conference championship teams in Central Arkansas and McNeese. They do present some problems. They run a Georgia Tech style of offense which has a neutralizing effect. They are also particularly skilled on the back end in their defense. We will have our challenges, but I expect us to be better the next time we go out. We're just trying to become the best football team we can be. With Ryan here, it's a special thing to be going back to Louisiana. It's about within an hour of LaPlace, so in a sense, he's going home. It's also a tradition for JSU to play Nicholls. Football in the state of Louisiana is very important. When you play there, you feel you're in a rich environment for football.
SENIOR QUARTERBACK RYAN PERRILLOUX
On The Opportunity to Play Close To Home
“I don't know what to expect. I know I'll have a lot of support because my family, friends, and high school are all down there. I'm expecting a good welcome and greeting. But, I'm most excited to go back and play in front of the home crowd and let them know what I've become in the two years I've been away. It's definitely going to be a good thing to go and showcase the skills that I've developed. I didn't think we would play a school from Louisiana, so I'm excited. I'm glad Coach (Crowe) scheduled this game. I want to go play well, go out, compete hard, and do everything I can to help this team win. I'm not going to go out and try to do more than normal.”
