Gamecock Soccer Hosts Austin Peay, Murray State On Final Home Weekend

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State will wrap up the home soccer season this weekend, hosting Austin State on Friday evening and Murray State for Senior Day on Sunday.

JSU and the Lady Govs of APSU will kick off at 7 p.m., while the Jax State versus MSU match will get underway at 1 p.m.  Senior day festivities will get started around 12:40 p.m.

The Gamecocks, 2-11-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference, have aspirations of making the conference tournament with just two conference weekends left on the docket.  After this weekend, JSU will be idle before closing out the regular season at Southeast Missouri and UT Martin.  The top six teams earn berths into the postseason tournament, hosted by the regular season champion.

The Gamecocks look to shake off a hard fought, 2-1, setback to Tennessee Tech last weekend on the home pitch.  APSU comes to Jacksonville with an overall mark of 7-5 and 1-2 in league matches.  The Lady Govs topped Murray State in their last outing on Oct. 2, 2-1, on the road in Murray, Ky.  The Racers of MSU will be searching for their first OVC win of the season on Friday at TTU before JSU entertains the Blue and Gold.

Friday's match will be the eight meeting between JSU and APSU with the Gamecocks holding a 4-3-1 edge in the series that dates back to 2003.  The two programs have split the series since 2005 with each winning on its home field.  Last season, APSU posted a shut out over JSU, 1-0, in Clarksville, Tenn.

This weekend's matches will be the final matches for five departing seniors – Emily Bielaga, Lindsay Boehmler, Martina Dessbesell, Millie Parekh and Chelsea Pelletier.  All five members of the Class of 2011 have been instrumental in the growth of the Gamecock soccer program since arriving on campus in 2008.  Combined, this year's class has played in 241 contests.  Bielaga and Pelletier, mainstays on the field, will exit the program after this season with their names etched in the Jax State soccer record book for matches played in a career.  Bielaga, a four-year starter in the JSU defense, ranks second all-time at JSU in minutes played with 6,093 through 69 matches played.  Pelletier, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, moved in to a tie for fourth place on the program's career goals scored list with 20.  She shares the spot with former two-sport standout Ashley Martin.

Boehmler has turned in ten career goals and four assists to her credit.  The Woodstock, Ga. midfielder posted JSU's last hat trick with a trio of goals against Alabama State in her freshman campaign.  Parekh returned this season after battling an injury last season.  The Roswell, Ga.-product scored one goal in 2009 and has been a three-time recipient of the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll.  Dessbesell moved over from the Jax State women's tennis squad this season after a stellar career on the hardcourts.  The Panambi, Brazil-native was a two-time All-OVC selection in 2008 and 2009 and helped guide the 2010-11 Gamecock women's tennis squad to the 2011 OVC Championship and a berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Admission to all JSU soccer matches is free to the public.
